Job Description:

  • As a Workers' Compensation Defense Paralegal, you will be integral to our defense team, assisting attorneys with managing and defending workers' compensation claims in California. This role will involve a mix of calendaring, case management, legal correspondence, and client interaction, all aimed at building robust defense strategies for our clients.

Key Responsibilities (under attorney supervision):

  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of workers' compensation defense, including preparing legal documents, motions, and pleadings.

  • Draft and file answers, discovery responses, and other necessary legal filings with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).

  • Manage case calendars, ensuring deadlines and case details are tracked and updated.

  • Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel regarding case updates and document requests.

  • Review and summarize medical records, expert reports, and other evidence relevant to the case.

  • Prepare responses to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and depositions.

  • Track and maintain case calendars for hearings, deadlines, and critical events.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers' compensation defense, including experience with WCAB filings and procedures.

  • Proficient with legal software (such as Merus Case and others) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Bilingual (any language & English) is a plus, but not required.

  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program preferred.
