Job Description:
As a Workers' Compensation Defense Paralegal, you will be integral to our defense team, assisting attorneys with managing and defending workers' compensation claims in California. This role will involve a mix of calendaring, case management, legal correspondence, and client interaction, all aimed at building robust defense strategies for our clients.
Key Responsibilities (under attorney supervision):
Assist attorneys with all aspects of workers' compensation defense, including preparing legal documents, motions, and pleadings.
Draft and file answers, discovery responses, and other necessary legal filings with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
Manage case calendars, ensuring deadlines and case details are tracked and updated.
Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel regarding case updates and document requests.
Review and summarize medical records, expert reports, and other evidence relevant to the case.
Prepare responses to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and depositions.
Track and maintain case calendars for hearings, deadlines, and critical events.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers' compensation defense, including experience with WCAB filings and procedures.
Proficient with legal software (such as Merus Case and others) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Bilingual (any language & English) is a plus, but not required.
Paralegal certification from an accredited program preferred.
